unusual pets

Hi, has anyone had any unusual pets or uncommon pets such as birds, parrots, snakes, exotic animals like lions, bears, dolphins, tigers, sharks, crabs and other things? I plan on saving some money to go to either Maryland or Florida to see what dolphins are like. They've are interesting to me. So if anyone has ever gone to a place where you can swim with dolphins please share your experiences. Or if you've had pet snakes or crabs or night-crawlers/worms and things as pets share those as well. If I did have a pet snake I would get a non-poisonous one My son had a pet fish from one of the carnivals, but I guess we didn't change its water enough and it died. Maybe he can win another one this summer. Or maybe a snake would be a more hearty animal and would last longer as a pet? Cats and dogs are too common and everyday animals for me. Snakes, dolphins and stuff are interesting and always have been interesting to me.

I guess my 3 pet hespanics are unusual. The Barny Anibal who is half purple and mexican is cuddley and friendly. does have a tendency to eat to much cake the little fat pudding.
The Carlos grinder, a heavy metal listening, insessent gamer. he likes to live in a shed with his drums and scream Mas puta a lot.
then Finally the E-Z Juan, a Mexican computer boy, eats fried mexican food and drinks lots of alcohol. bites if you poke him and never wakes up on time in the morning. he is a loyal one though and extremely good when he works hard.

Lmao you guys are idiots. I had a parot. Her name was lily and she was a bitch/darling. Everytime we be in a heated conversation she mock us until we had to yell, "lily! shut up!"
She used to bite us too, and everytime I got close to her cage to feed her, she bite my hair and tug.
But she was so cute, always singing the words to pi pi the sailor man. (not sure how to spell that) She even said words like, here kitty, popcorn, french fries, pretty bird. She used to even bark like our dogs, and chirp like many different types of birds.

I swam with dolphins in Mexico a few years ago. Beautiful creatures with surprisingly smooth skin, not slimy at all. These ones were well trained and sweet; one of them turned on her back and let me touch her to see what she looked like. I had a great time.

ooooo, glad to be part of the Mexican bitch squod! But Mas, I can be friendly too?

Lions? Tigers? Bears? I believe the show is called Fatal Attractions.

My dad had a lot of unusual things as pets, but my grandma did not let him keep them in the house when he was a kid. He snuck a terranchella in to the house, you know, the spider, and he said for some reason she let him keep that as long as there was no way of it escaping. He also had an eguana and I've heard for some reason their shit is more foul than a lot of animals scat. Lol.

Post 9 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Friday, 24-May-2013 3:58:36

I don't like spiders, so a Tarantula wouldn't be a good pet for me. I know my dad had a pet skunk when he was younger. Shudder...

Post 10 by Jack Off Jill (why the hell am I posting in the first place?) on Friday, 24-May-2013 12:01:33

I always wanted a bat. But a tarantulas sound cuuute

Post 11 by Meglet (I just keep on posting!) on Friday, 24-May-2013 20:07:32

I actually spoke to a guy who had a pet skunk growing up. Apparently they're very loving, affectionate pets, though they are very curious and get into things if they're not watched. Also, they have to spray at least once before they can be prevented from doing so again. Plus...I believe they're illegal in most parts.
I once met a couple who had a baby coyote. It was very, very cute, but I wonder how things panned out when it got older?

Post 12 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Saturday, 25-May-2013 9:13:57

Again, I point you toward Fatal Attractions on Animal Planet. LOL.

Post 13 by CrazyMusician (If I don't post to your topic, it's cuz I don't give a rip about it!) on Monday, 27-May-2013 9:12:59

hahahaha! Since I am married to the guy Meglet spoke to once about pet skunks...
I think the more illegal thing is to remove the scent glands... I think it takes away a defense mechanism or some such.

Post 14 by Meglet (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 27-May-2013 14:41:54

My bad, thought that some locations wouldn't want a skunk running round, especially one who has had their scent glands removed.

Post 15 by Winterfresh (This is who I am, an what I am about. If you don't like it, too damn bad!!!) on Monday, 27-May-2013 19:30:44

My best friend had a hermit crab. That thing was hilarious!! He would fight with my best friend, not really pinch her, but he would be a little shit to her. She'd clean his tank and then he'd go in and purposefully dig holes and mess it up again as if to say, "Ha ha." He'd also stop whatever he was doing when she'd yell at him and look over at her.

Post 16 by forereel (Just posting.) on Monday, 27-May-2013 21:36:39

Pet rocks. Easy to manage. Lol

Post 17 by rdfreak (THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE-BLUE KANGA-KICKIN AUSIE) on Monday, 27-May-2013 23:23:41

Pimped, My partner had a bat living with his family as he was growing up. They had initially tried to send it away but it kept on coming back. So it stayed with them. Use to hang upside down during the day (forget what on) and at night be petted etc etc. It was the most fascinating story; not sure I'd be too keen myself.

Post 18 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Tuesday, 28-May-2013 0:52:47

I've always wanted a pet turtle, but I've heard their tanks are a pain in the ass, and very expensive, to manage. but that would be so awesome.

Post 19 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Tuesday, 28-May-2013 5:45:22

I'll just stick to cats. They're easier to take care of even if not necessarily cheaper than any other animal.

Post 20 by Runner229 (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 28-May-2013 13:20:55

Sam, we used to have pet hermit crabs when we were kids too. They were fun. My mom got this huge tank with a bunch of things for them to climb on and a whole bunch of shells for them to change in to when they got too big for the one they were in.

Post 21 by Winterfresh (This is who I am, an what I am about. If you don't like it, too damn bad!!!) on Tuesday, 28-May-2013 14:51:57

That's so cool Rachel. A pet bat would be pretty awesome. A tortoise would be a good pet if you wanted a turtle, it's just a land dwelling turtle. I hear they're pretty easy to handle and take care of.

Post 22 by rdfreak (THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE-BLUE KANGA-KICKIN AUSIE) on Tuesday, 28-May-2013 23:29:30

yeh, I use to wish I had a pet turtle when I was little. We had family friends who use to keep them. :)
My dad had one when he was little but got his shell bitten off by the family dog; it didn't survive obviously.

Post 23 by Shepherdwolf (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Wednesday, 29-May-2013 18:12:26

I've seen a couple of iguanas. I don't trust them, as their tail-whip thing (which they seem to do when they're angry) is very fast and painful. I heard one crack glass with it.
A family friend used to have snakes...a carpet python and a ball python, which are smaller varieties not very dangerous to humans. The ball python was smooth as silk and very placid as long as she'd eaten; even I, who had no experience handling snakes, didn't alarm this one...she just sort of flowed from one point to the next across my arms, shoulders and neck. Fascinating, really.
I remember that skunk conversation, Meglet. I was simultaneously a little disbelieving and very intrigued. My mom raised a raccoon for awhile when she was a kid...apparently they make very mischievous but loving pets, till they hit a certain age anyway.
Another unusual pet, this one not yet mentioned...chinchillas. They are without a doubt the softest animal I've ever stroked...and what's cool is that, even though they're rodents and ought to freak out being around us, a well-socialized chinchilla can be pretty laid-back, much like a well-trained rabbit (or so I hear).

Post 24 by loves animals (This site is so "educational") on Wednesday, 03-Jul-2013 23:40:57

wow I couldn't own some of them as pets cause they'd freak me out but my brother once had a possum for a pet though unfortunately it passed on because it had eaten some poisoners flower or plant, not sure which but it was quite cool and it was funny when it use to hang upside down with his tail, smiles.

Post 25 by Moore2it (Newborn Zoner) on Thursday, 11-Jul-2013 22:14:43

I had a chinchilla. They're really good pets if you know how to care for them propperly, but unfortunantly at the time I didn't. It got pretty dangerous when it was stressed out. It would litterly do backflips around it's cage when I would try to hold it. In a way I think it was just taunting me haha

Post 26 by loves animals (This site is so "educational") on Friday, 12-Jul-2013 6:55:44

oh wow and you weren't scared?

Post 27 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Friday, 12-Jul-2013 11:33:21

I definitely agree with SW about chinchillas. That has got to be absolutely the softest fur I've ever had the good fortune to touch. About the oly problem would be that I wouldhavetomake aconscious effort not to constantly hold the little critter up to my face. You also have to be careful since according to the research I've done you absolutely cannot let a Chinchilla's fur get wet.

Post 28 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Friday, 12-Jul-2013 14:36:41

Apparently this is because the fur is so thick that it can't dry on its own very easily if at all. So it retains moisture which can lead to health problems.

Post 29 by Moore2it (Newborn Zoner) on Friday, 12-Jul-2013 17:19:46

They take dust baths. It's very intertaining to watch. :) That was probably one of my favorite parts about owning one. Oh, and animallover55, I wasn't scared, but I did have to be very careful :) because it was crazy fast, like a ninja. :)

Post 30 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Friday, 12-Jul-2013 18:06:02

YeahI know they take dust baths. I just wanted to refres my memory about just why you can't get a chinchilla wet.

Post 31 by snowflower (Zone BBS Addict) on Saturday, 13-Jul-2013 18:07:31

We have 3 Sugargliders and years ago we had a couple raccoons. Baby coons are very cute, and playful like a kitten.

Post 32 by Moore2it (Newborn Zoner) on Saturday, 13-Jul-2013 19:31:12

I think I've heard of sugargliders. Can't you keep them in your pocket? I really don't know anything about them. So off to wikipedia I guess :)

Post 33 by loves animals (This site is so "educational") on Monday, 15-Jul-2013 6:36:50

awe the racoons sure do sound cute and interesting sounding animal though I've never seen one of those before or heard about them so if you don't mind could you explain more about them, what they look like as it would be nice to know, thanks, smiles.

Post 34 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Sunday, 21-Jul-2013 18:07:53

I'm sure they're cute as babies but then they grow up. LOL.

Post 35 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Monday, 22-Jul-2013 16:24:35

That's correct. Raccoons are extremely dangerous pets. They are wild animals, very smart, and spend a lot of their time tearing into things in their environment. Again they are destructive and will eat baby birds out of their nests, eat your kittens, destroy the siding on your house, tear the stuffing out of your furniture and poop everywhere.
Anybody still want a raccoon?
Also feel free to write about any exotics you want to own and I can probably cite you some sources on how you shouldn't have one lol and that goes for most birds for most bird-ignorant people.

Post 36 by loves animals (This site is so "educational") on Monday, 29-Jul-2013 1:49:46

wow i didn't know that and i figured you'd not be able to have them as pets because of them being a wild animal but still be neat to meet one.

Post 37 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Tuesday, 30-Jul-2013 23:21:39

I certainly wouldn't want to meet one. So far the wild animals I've met and actually had the opportunity to touch were a coyote pup, a timberwolf pup, a woodchuck, an elephant (I actually got to ride on it),, and a cheetah. I also touched a hedgehog once and it sort of hissed at me so I left it alone.

Post 38 by loves animals (This site is so "educational") on Wednesday, 31-Jul-2013 7:19:43

wow cool smiles

Post 39 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Wednesday, 31-Jul-2013 15:32:23

Yeah. It was pretty neat.

Post 40 by loves animals (This site is so "educational") on Thursday, 01-Aug-2013 0:03:17

I bet it was, smiles

Post 41 by wild orca (Zone BBS Addict) on Thursday, 01-Aug-2013 13:46:39

I used to have a desert tortus for a pet. He was a baby, and we had to get rid of him when we moved to California. I'd really love to have a farrit, but their aleegal in California.

Post 42 by wild orca (Zone BBS Addict) on Thursday, 01-Aug-2013 13:54:27

I also got to incounter a few exodics myself. I got kissed by a wolf, and got to pet a mountain lion. I also got to pet a raccoon, but it made me nervous because it was trying to get out of the ladie's hands. She was holding it's head so it wouldn't bite me, but don't think I'd have one for a pet. And oh yes, I petted a hawk, and a fox.

Post 43 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Thursday, 01-Aug-2013 19:39:47

Fox fur is some of the softest I've ever touched. The baby timberwolf I petted kept licking my hands. The cheetah just purred. Of course that was pretty cool to hear.

Post 44 by wild orca (Zone BBS Addict) on Friday, 02-Aug-2013 20:23:47

I think the thing that braught me close to tears, was the mountain lion purring. He was in his cage of course, but he let me pet him through the bars, and he was just purring away. When they braught the wolf out, he kept coming back to me and licking my face. The guy said when he presented his shoulder, he wanted to be petted. He came to me three times, and I thought that was pretty special.

Post 45 by loves animals (This site is so "educational") on Friday, 02-Aug-2013 23:07:46

awe that is so cute and how cool you guys have been able to experience being with some cool animals, I love the sound of purring and it sounds like that animal really likes you and liked the attention you were giving it, smiles.

Post 46 by wild orca (Zone BBS Addict) on Saturday, 03-Aug-2013 15:19:40

Yeah, it was pretty cool. I never forgot they were wild though, and made sure to do whatever that guy told me in reguards to the wolf. It was an amazing experience.

Post 47 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Saturday, 03-Aug-2013 18:13:20

I've always wondered what a lion's fur would feel like. I touched a tiger pelt once and it felt almost like regular cat fur. I would imagine a lion's fur would be quite a bit rougher. The cheetah's was, although we could only touch her head. It still felt cool though and that purr was neat. I've heard a lio roar quite a few times and it scared me quite a bit. I remember hearing or reading somewhere that lions in particular and many other big cats as well can only purr while exhaling. I forget whether cheetahs also fall into that camp.

Post 48 by loves animals (This site is so "educational") on Sunday, 04-Aug-2013 6:27:31

awe nice and I have patted a lion cub and there fur is real soft though he did try to get me with his teeth but only wanted to play.
I like many of the different varieties of cats like mare cats, tigers, lions though I wouldn't have them as a pet as it would be to dangerous plus it wouldn't be fair on the animal.

Post 49 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Sunday, 04-Aug-2013 15:22:13

What's a mare cat? If you're thinking of the Meerkat they're not actually cats.

Post 50 by loves animals (This site is so "educational") on Tuesday, 06-Aug-2013 20:32:28

most likely but i'm sure they are in the category of cats well that's what i thought.

Post 51 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Wednesday, 07-Aug-2013 14:47:10

Not from what I've been able to determine, just like prairie dogs aren't really dogs.

Post 52 by loves animals (This site is so "educational") on Wednesday, 07-Aug-2013 23:00:51

oh ok interesting though, smiles.

Post 53 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Sunday, 08-Sep-2013 9:37:49

Actually I think they're a type of rodent if memory serves.
